Philanthropy – Media Roundtable, Uganda Section: Accountability Frontier: Media and Philanthropy in the Spotlight

In a world increasingly characterized by skepticism and demand for transparency, philanthropy finds itself under the microscope more than ever before. While goodwill and positive change remain its core tenets, public trust hinges critically on transparency and tangible impact. In Uganda, a nation rich in diversity, culture, and aspirations, philanthropy’s role becomes especially pivotal in bridging developmental gaps. However, for philanthropy to thrive and be embraced fully, the responsibility of accountability becomes critical. This is where the media, deemed as the fourth pillar of democracy, steps in. This forum seeks to explore this dance between philanthropy and media, where the latter casts light upon, validates, and in some instances, challenges the efforts of the former, all with a shared goal: ensuring that every philanthropic act achieves its true potential and is recognized and accountable to those it seeks to uplift.
